There may be some friends who don’t understand the term polyethylene wax. Here we will first introduce what PE wax is. PE wax is a low molecular weight polyethylene, with a molecular weight of about 2000-5000, and a hydrocarbon mixture with a carbon atom number of about 18-30. The main components are linear alkanes (about 80% – 95%), and a small number of alkanes with individual branches and monocyclic cycloalkanes with long side chains (the total content of the two is less than 20%). Then, after understanding PE wax, we will return to the main topic and introduce how to distinguish the true and false PE wax.

1. Flake polyethylene wax
The genuine flaked polyethylene wax meat looks like plastic. It looks hard and is the same as the plastic piece. The surface is smooth, translucent, natural white or yellowish. When you look at it, you will see that there is no layering inside, no lime powder, black spots and other impurities, and there is good brightness when you look at it with light;
2. Touch with your hand
Real polyethylene wax has good smoothness. It feels like plastic rather than wax. It is hard, brittle, easy to break, and does not agglomerate at normal temperature. Fakes containing paraffin, hardened oil and Fischer Tropsch wax are greasy. They feel oily and feel like candles, or they look rough and soft. If they are in powder form, they will form a mass when you hold them with your hands.

3. Smell
The real polyethylene wax smells like plastic, while the fake polyethylene wax smells like wax or strong odor;
4. Boil in boiling water
Put the wax piece in a glassware and heat it until the water boils for 5 minutes. The real polyethylene wax is the one whose shape remains unchanged, and the polyethylene wax containing impurities such as paraffin wax is the one that becomes sticky or deformed. Although the test methods are different and the test environment is different, the softening point of the genuine product must be higher than 100 ℃.
5. Use melting point meter, infrared spectrometer and nuclear magnetic resonance test
The melting point of real polyethylene wax is generally about 105 degrees, and the melting range is narrow. The fake products mixed with other substances have low melting point and wide melting range. The infrared spectrometer is like a fiery eye. It is easy to distinguish the true from the false, but the instrument is expensive. Not to mention nuclear magnetic resonance.
6. The authenticity of polyethylene wax was tested by measuring melting range, softening point, acid value and ash content;

7. Try
The amount of pure PE wax is small, the demoulding property is good, the product is not precipitated, and the brightness of the product is high, and various properties of the product are improved. Fake PE wax does not have these superior properties.
