Powder coatings are solid powder synthetic resin coatings composed of solid resins, pigments, fillers and additives. And ordinary solvent-based coating and water-based coating different, its dispersion medium is not solvent and water, but air. It has the characteristics of no solvent pollution, 100% film formation and low energy consumption.When the powder coating is sprayed on the workpiece and cured by heating, the gelation time of the powder particles from melting to losing fluidity is shorter, and the measuring time is less than 180 seconds at 150 °C. At higher temperatures, the time is shorter. As a result, the coating can not flow and self-heal when the small molecule substance overflows in the later period, which results in pinhole and bubble on the surface of the coating.

Volatiles come from solvents in resins and auxiliaries, moisture in pigments and fillers, gasescontained in the powder layer during spraying, volatiles from the workpiece itself, and water or other small molecules produced during curing of the coating. By reducing the melt viscosity of the coating or improving the compatibility of the coating with the workpiece substrate, the defoamer can accelerate the escape of the small molecular substances and avoid the defects.

Such auxiliaries in powder coatings are called defoamers or degassing agents. Benzoin is the most widely used and has the best defoaming effect. However, there are problems such as high price, yellowing, more smoke and incomplete removal of air bubbles in some substrates. Therefore, a series of substitutes for benzoin have appeared on the market. Its active ingredients are different, including amide wax, micro powder polyethylene / polypropylene wax, modified carbonate, polyoxyethylene and so on.
