Low molecular weight polyethylene, commonly known as polyethylene wax, refers to polyethylene with a molecular weight of around 1000-5000. According to different manufacturing methods, polyethylene wax can be divided into two types: polymerization type and cracking type. The former is formed by the polymerization of small molecule olefins through high and low pressure methods, while the latter is produced by the thermal cracking of polyethylene. Due to different molecular structures, polyethylene waxes can be divided into two types: high density and low density, which mainly depends on the number and length of branch chains in their molecules. At present, there are many domestic and foreign manufacturers producing polyethylene wax. Foreign manufacturers generally use polymerization method for production, while domestic manufacturers use cracking method for production.

Adding polyethylene wax to the color masterbatch helps to wet the pigment, reduce the particle size of the pigment, accelerate the wetting between the carrier resin and the pigment, increase their previous affinity, thereby improving the compatibility between the pigment and the carrier resin, and to some extent, improving the dispersion level of the pigment. In addition, polyethylene wax can also improve the flowability of masterbatches, increase production rates, and improve product processing performance, especially for polyethylene hydrocarbon color masterbatches.
