Hot melt adhesive is a kind of plastic adhesive. Within a certain temperature range, its physical state changes with the change of temperature, while its chemical properties remain unchanged. It is non-toxic and tasteless. It is an environmental friendly chemical product.

The general components of hot melt adhesive are organic synthetic materials. The common components include the following aspects: main material, tackifier, softener, filler, antioxidant and regulator.
The main material basically plays a decisive role in the bonding strength, heat resistance, toughness and medium resistance of hot-melt adhesive. It is usually composed of one or several high molecular polymers. Softener makes hot melt adhesive easy to produce and process. Fillers generally use inorganic substances that do not react with components to increase the viscosity of colloids and improve impact resistance and mechanical strength. Antioxidants extend the service life and heat resistance of hot melt adhesive.
The appearance and shape of hot melt adhesive vary according to different purposes:
1. Hot melt adhesive rod:
The solid adhesive is made of EVA as the main material, tackifier and other components. It has the characteristics of fast adhesion, high strength, aging resistance, no toxicity and good thermal stability. It can be used for wood, plastic, packaging and other mutually adhesive solids, and can be widely used in factories and families. Hot melt glue stick is generally used with hot melt glue gun.

2. Hot melt particles:
Hot melt rubber particles are plastic adhesive products. Within a certain temperature range, the physical state of hot melt rubber particles changes with the change of temperature, while the chemical properties remain unchanged. Hot melt rubber particles are non-toxic and tasteless. They are environmental friendly glue products. Hot melt rubber particles can be used in packaging in all walks of life. Hot melt adhesive particles are used to melt the hot melt adhesive through heat in a hot melt adhesive machine, and the glue after melting becomes a liquid. The hot-melt adhesive is sent to the surface of the bonded object through the hot-melt adhesive pipe and hot-melt adhesive gun of the hot-melt adhesive machine, and the bonding is completed after the hot-melt adhesive is cooled.
3. Hot melt film:
Hot melt adhesive film is a kind of film product with release paper or without release paper, which can be operated continuously or intermittently. It can be widely used for bonding all kinds of fabrics, paper, polymer materials and metals.
Hot melt adhesive film can be divided into thermoplastic and thermosetting according to its application characteristics. It has the following characteristics:
(1) It has good consistent and uniform bonding thickness;
(2) Solvent-free, easy to process;
(3) Good adhesion to many objects;
(4) The thickness is 0.1-0.203mm and the color is translucent / amber;
(5) It can be punched into precise shapes and sizes, and is suitable for pure manual or automatic applications.
Product application: it can bond metal, plastic, paper, wood, ceramics, textile and other materials, and can also obtain good results on the surface of uneven objects.
4. Hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive:
Hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesive is an adhesive based on thermoplastic polymer. It has the dual characteristics of hot melt and pressure-sensitive. It can be coated in the molten state. After cooling, it can be bonded quickly by applying light pressure. At the same time, it can not easily pollute the surface of the adherend.

The general composition of hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive is: polymer elastomer, such as SIS, SBS, SEBS, SEPS, etc., as well as tackifier, plasticizer, filler and antioxidant. It is mainly thermoplastic elastomer, i.e. SBS and SIS thermoplastic elastomer. SBS, also known as thermoplastic styrene butadiene rubber, is a thermoplastic elastomer. SBS has good solubility and is compatible with many polymers. Adding resin and tackifier can reduce its melt viscosity. It is very suitable for preparing hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive. SIS is a block copolymer of styrene and isoprene. It has low modulus, low solution viscosity and melt viscosity and good processability. Because SIS intermediate block polyisoprene has side chain methyl in structure, it has good cohesion, excellent adhesion and good compatibility with other additives, SIS hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive has better initial adhesion than SBS hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive.
Tackifying resin is another important component of pressure-sensitive adhesive except the main elastic body. Its main function is to give pressure-sensitive adhesive necessary viscosity. It is because the tackifying resin is mixed into the rubber elastomer that the mixing system produces the necessary initial viscosity and adhesion to the surface of the bonded material.
Commonly used tackifiers can be divided into two categories:
Rosin series: rosin, rosin derivatives (hydrogenation, disproportionation, polymerization, esterification)
Natural resin terpene series: terpene resin（ α－ Terpene β－ Terpene), terpene phenolic resin, aromatic modified terpene resin, hydrogenated terpene resin.
